POSITION CLASS DEFINITION:
Essential nature of work, degree of difficulty and responsibility.
Performs routine manual work in grounds maintenance activities, requiring some knowledge of grounds maintenance activities. Work is performed under general supervision and assignments are outlined in detail and inspected periodically. The incumbent performs related duties as required.
PRIMARY WORK ACTIVITIES:
Typical activities characteristic of the class.
-- Mows, rakes, and cuts grass;
-- Removes snow and ice and spreads sand and salt on walks, pathways, drives, and parking areas;
-- Fertilizes, seeds, and cultivates lawns and athletic fields;
-- Operates trucks, mowers, tractors, and snowplow in performance of duties;
-- Hauls and spreads top soil, gravel, and related grounds-keeping materials;
-- Plants and cares for trees, shrubs, and plants;
-- When not working as a Groundsworker, does other routine manual work including minor maintenance tasks;
-- Maintains equipment including, but not limited to painting, repairing, and lubricating as needed;
-- Removes trash from buildings and grounds and deposits in proper places.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, specialized background, training and experience.
One year of experience in park or grounds maintenance activities.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
Established by statute, rule or regulation governing position.

Eligibility for an appropriate motor vehicle operator’s license at time of application for appointment. Possession of the license at time of appointment.
